What is the structural principle of a headphone jack?

Basic knowledge of headphone jacks

A headphone jack is an interface used to connect headphones to audio source devices (such as mobile phones, computers, etc.). It is usually located on the side or bottom of the audio source device and comes in different sizes and specifications depending on the standard. Common standards include 2.5mm, 3.5mm, 6.3mm, and USB interfaces. Based on the type of pins, they can be divided into straight pins, right-angle pins, and pins with wires.

The structure of the headphone jack

Headphone jacks generally consist of a multi-point socket structure, primarily including a headphone plug, a socket, and conductive contacts. Firstly, the headphone plug has a central pin, followed by two auxiliary pins on either side. Each auxiliary pin has two or more sets of metal contacts on its sides. At the center of the headphone jack is a circular insertion hole for the headphone plug pins to engage. The conductive contacts of the headphone jack also have curved contact portions that contact the metal contacts on either side of the auxiliary pins, forming effective conductive contact and providing independent transmission. Simultaneously, auxiliary insertion holes are also located on both sides of the headphone jack, opposite the auxiliary pins. Inside each auxiliary headphone plug insertion hole are two opposing conductive contacts.
